Landlord fined $57,000

In a recent case, a landlord has been ordered to pay $57,000 in penalties by the RTB’s Compliance and Enforcement Unit for converting part of a commercial building into illegal single-rooms. The Enforcement Unit found that there were fire, life safety and occupancy concerns and that the landlord had converted the property without obtaining the necessary approvals.
