Victims of Workplace Sexual Harassment Can Now Claim Free Legal Services in Canada

The Vancouver Sun has announced the recent approval of a $2.3 million dollar grant by the Canadian Federal Government to the Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS).

The CLAS has since launched a new program, “SHARP Workplaces“, which welcomes up to five hours of free, confidential legal advice for victims of sexual harassment and/or assault in the workplace.

What is Workplace Sexual Harassment?

The Canada Labour Code classifies sexual harassment as, “any conduct, comment, gesture, or contact of a sexual nature that is likely to cause offence or humiliation to any employee”.

Any offer related to employee training and/or promotional employment opportunities, based on a “condition of a sexual nature”, is also considered sexual harassment.
